The possibility of a fight between Dustin Poirier and Beneil Dariush has been made more likely following “The Diamond’s” tenacious submission victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 281.

The #2 lightweight in the world, Poirier, believes that Dariush deserves the fight after winning eight straight fights, including a convincing decision victory over Mateusz Gamrot in October.
That makes a lot of sense, I must say. At the UFC 281 post-fight press conference in New York, Poirier informed the assembled media that Beneil had “earned his stripes, dispatched some difficult people, and been looking amazing while doing it.
“We’ll see; I’m not against. The UFC and my timetable — when I want to return — will ultimately decide. It all comes down to that.
I think it’s a great matchup,” he added. I think he deserves a top matchup.”
Poirier submitted “Iron Mike” with a rear-naked choke in the third round of their Fight of the Night, which saw both fighters receive an additional $50,000 for their efforts. Chandler was defeated by Poirier.
