‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ Series Adaptation in the Works at AMC

AMC is creating a television series based on the movie “Good Night, and Good Luck.

According to AMC’s script-to-series methodology, a writers’ room for the six-episode series is currently available. Together with Participant and 2929 Productions, George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and their Smokehouse Pictures company brought the project to AMC.

The movie was co-written by Clooney and Heslov; Clooney also directed and co-starred in it, while Heslov handled production. The movie was also jointly produced by Participant and 2929.

The show’s creator and executive producer will be Jonathan Glatzer. Along with Jeff Skoll of Participant, Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner of 2929 return as executive producers. Along with Haley Jones of 2929, Miura Kite of Participant will also executive produce. Smokehouse’s Rebecca Arzoian will co-executive produce.

Per the official logline, the series version “follows Sy Steingartner, a young cameraman for Edward R. Murrow’s ‘See It Now,’ who is forced to juggle his admiration for Murrow with his own ambition. With the CBS brass pushing an anti-Communist Loyalty Oath on Murrow and his staff, Sy has an opportunity to rise straight to the top, but only by betraying his mentor in the process. With wit and keen observation, the series confronts how we respond to chaos and the values that pull us through.”

Producing partners for AMC Studios include Smokehouse, Participant, and 2929. The series will be launched on both AMC and AMC+ by AMC Networks, which has exclusive global rights to it.

In 2005, the movie was released. It featured David Strathairn as Murrow and focused on their clash during the so-called Red Scare and McCarthy’s attempts to inflame anti-communist feeling throughout the nation. Clooney played Murrow’s producer Fred Friendly in the film.

Both the critical and commercial success of the movie were established. Despite having a stated $7 million budget, it brought in more than $54 million globally. Additionally, it was nominated for six Academy Awards, including those for best film, best director, best actor, and best original screenplay.
