Justin Gaethje on lightweight title

Since his defeat at UFC 277 in May to reigning champion Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje hasn’t made much of an appearance.

This is due to the lightweight contender having some much-needed downtime to rest, recoup, and get ready for another attempt to win the title.

Gaethje disclosed he would take some time off from working out after his defeat by Oliveira.

He was having surgery to fix a broken nose that had made it difficult for him to breathe through his nose.

But he also had another reason, which he hid for fear that it would be interpreted as an explanation for his failure.

Gaethje crashed on his motorcycle after one of the pedals failed just over two weeks before his attempt to win the championship.

I smoked my head on the road, and had road rash all down my back,” Gaethje said.

After taking a half-year off, he is prepared to return to work. When “The Nigerian Nightmare” is scheduled to face Leon Edwards again in March, he hopes the UFC will book him along with teammate Kamaru Usman.

“I need two impressive wins to get back in the picture,” Gaethje said. “I’ll be right back there with two finishes. The title is my focus.

This time, Gaethje did not give any names, but a month prior, he had one top contender he desired and another top contender he did not.
