Alex Pereira vs Israel Adesanya:
At UFC 281 this past Saturday, Israel Adesanya felt that referee Marc Goddard should have given him more time to escape danger against Alex Pereira.
More time would have only postponed the inevitable, according to “Po Atan,” though.
Pereira went forward when behind 3-1 on the judges’ scorecards and connected with a left hook and a barrage of punches that left Adesanya dazed.
The challenger never relented, and in the fifth and final round, Goddard had enough evidence to intervene and end the contest.
The former champion immediately objected because he never fell and would have preferred to end his career completely.
Alex Pereira statement:
My ego would say at least let me go out on my shield,” said Adesanya at his post-fight press conference. “But I don’t think I would’ve gone out because I was still there.
In contrast, Pereira. The newly crowned UFC middleweight champion responded to those post-fight remarks by reminding Adesanya of his position when Goddard spared him from a worse outcome.
According to UFC president Dana White, he “wouldn’t rule it out” that Pereira and Adesanya will fight again right away. And with everyone on board, a fourth battle appears highly likely.
