How much does it cost to add autopilot to an older Tesla Model 3?
Tesla may disclose the price reductions either at its earnings call for the second quarter of 2020,
or at some time later, according to Elon Musk's recent revelation regarding
the declining cost of the Tesla standard Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) upgrades.
According to screenshots from a Tesla app that a Tesla owner shared with Insider,
Tesla reduced the price of the improvements on Tuesday from $1,500 to $1,000 amid the uproar.
As Tesla noted, the Hardware 3.0 update went live for its complete Self-Driving membership at a cost of $1,500.
With the exchange of the older computers for Hardware 3.0 silicon, Tesla initially requested $1,500; eventually,
Tesla decreased the exchange to $1,000. For $3,000, complete Autopilot could
be applied to used Teslas that already had the improved Autopilot.
Tesla customers can only receive the free Camera Autopilot upgrade if they also bought the complete Self-Driving software bundle.
