On Tuesday, the governors of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana signed -

proclamations ordering all public property to fly the flag at half-staff.

The reason? Wednesday, December 7, is the 81st anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

Up until Wednesday at midnight, all state and national flags will be flown at half-staff.

The Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade is held annually to honour the victims and commemorate the attack's anniversary.

It begins at 4:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. ET). FOX19 will stream it live across all of our digital platforms.

In honour of those who lost their lives in the surprise Japanese attack on

the American naval base in Hawaii, which was later considered a war crime,

Wednesday is recognised as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

353 Japanese fighter and bomber aircraft from six aircraft carriers commenced the assault just before 8 a.m. local time.

The day was Sunday. 2,403 Americans perished in the attack. 1,178 more people suffered injuries.
