Why The Santa Cruz Is Better Than The Maverick?

Ford is very fond of the Santa Cruz, indeed, but Fords new 2022 Maverick offers all that Hyundai does, just for substantially less.

Going is an important consideration, since Fords Maverick is offered with a hybrid powertrain,

but it turns out that the non-hybrid also returns better fuel economy, while offering comparable power,

though a bit less, to the Hyundais Santa Cruz.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is available starting in the mid-twenties, and there is a front-drive,

fuel-sipping hybrid option on offer, although my FX-4 Maverick tester ran the 2L,

250-hp turbo-four that produced 277 pound-feet of torque.

That experience has carried over into the Ford Maverick, and at a first glance,

the Maverick looks much more like an actual pickup truck than a Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Otherwise, it is more of an up-level interior, with 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz offering two-zone automatic climate control,

leather trim, and vented front seats--affordances not found on the 2022 Ford Maverick.

That makes Fords new 2022 Maverick distinctly more truck-like than Hyundais, with a somewhat looser steering feel and more springy ride.
