At UFC 281 on Saturday, Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler put on a masterful performance
that surprised absolutely nobody who had ever seen them battle before.
From the first bell, the fight was contested at a rapid pace, with numerous momentum changes.
Early on, Chandler got the upper hand, sprinting out and striking Poirier hard
Poirier was completely overwhelmed by Chandler in the early going,
but he is one of the toughest and most intelligent competitors in the sport.
On the first beat of the third, Chandler lifted Poirier into the air and prepared to slam him.
They fell, but Poirier managed to get Chandler's back by slipping between Chandler's knees.
At 2:00 in the third, he swiftly applied the rear naked choke, which made Chandler submit.
Both participants in the fight displayed class, but Poirier—who is now ranked #1 in the division—
is one of those fighters who always seems to find a way to prevail.
And throughout his long career, he has yet to suffer two consecutive defeats.
