Dustin Poirier, a lightweight contender in the UFC who had just won by

submission over Michael Chandler at UFC 281 in New York, was admitted to the hospital on

Sunday (Dec. 4, 2022) and has not been released as of the time of this writing.

Poirier wrote in his Instagram stories, "Going on Day 2 in the hospital. Shit’s getting serious.”

ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto twitted that  “[He] told me it’s Staph (infection),

but he’s not responding to antibiotics over the last 24 hours.

Undergoing further blood work now, hopefully get some answers today.”

In fact, it put Robert Whittaker, the former middleweight champion, in a "life-threatening position"

when it spread to "The Reaper's" stomach in the beginning of 2018.

Thankfully, the Australian was able to fully recover, and hopefully, Poirier will as well.
