Which Long-Haul Trucking Technology, Hydrogen or Electric, is Best?
Advocates for hydrogen have long claimed that H 2 will be necessary for long-distance,
heavy-duty road hauling, but the new study claims that they have found two
additional applications where hydrogen trucks will be superior to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).
According to Volvo Trucks, hydrogen fuel cell technology is best suited for trucks that
travel very long distances, haul very big loads, or don't have reliable electric charging.
Vehicles using hydrogen fuel can be refuelled faster and with less of a weight penalty than
trucks using batteries because hydrogen fuel tanks are much lighter than batteries.
